I wanted to share an image that I managed to get yesterday...
For this one; I wasn't even inside the gardens, this is from one of the tulip beds outside of the main entrance.
Today was just one of this days when "real" life steps all over what you really wanted to do... Ah well; that's why we create these images, so we can look back and transport ourselves to a more relaxing place and time.
Have a great week everybody! - Ed

Quiet Spot...
I wanted to share an image from my quick visit to Longwood Gardens this morning...
After missing what looked to be a pretty good sunrise; I decided to make my way down to Longwood to get some Spring themed shooting in. It didn't take long for the Gardens to become very busy, hectic with all of the visitors. While the Tulip beds were crowded; making tripod shooting difficult, I choose to take a different path.
This idyllic spot is the Italian Water Garden. Until today; I had never wandered down to this part of the grounds. Tucked away down in a little hollow; I was surprised by the lack of visitors in this area. I just stood for a few moments taking the scene in before it dawned on me that it was a good time to make an image since there was no other visitors in the area. I metered on the sky in the distance when I made this single exposure. In post; I brought up the details in the shadowed portions (a benefit of shooting RAW); and added a slight glow effect to the entire image.

Sunset On A Much Smaller Scale
I wanted to try a different take on sunsets this evening...
Still using the great light; I wanted to approach things from a new perspective compared to my recent landscape sunset images.
This is a Gerber Daisy. I photographed it on our dinning room window sill with the window sheers behind it; diffusing the light, and back-lighting the petals at the same time. I used my Tamron 90/2.8 Macro lens because I know that it will deliver the level of image quality I am after...
Still using the Tamron; I moved outside as the sun was almost gone. This Tulip image was taken on our deck. The Tulip was on top our table; the table a very light gray that acted like a reflector and bounced some fill light up on the petals. This was shot at a wider aperture; f/4, to help isolate the subject. I also under exposed the image slightly to help darken up the background.
Just a great way to spend a few minutes after dinner...

Last Wink...
At the end of a busy day filled with Spring cleaning and other chores neglected for the past Winter; I jumped in the truck after dinner and headed up to Marsh Creek to see what the sunset had in store for this evening...
I didn't get as much time as I normally like to have for shooting sunsets; the light and sun seemed to be in "fast forward" mode tonight. I just managed to get this last look at the setting sun before it disappeared over the horizon. While the sun was quick; the clouds seemed more agreeable to hanging around just enough to be included in my image this evening.

Friday Night Light...
This is what greeted me this evening at Marsh Creek after a short while of patiently waiting... Sometimes the best thing about a big change in the weather; are the skies that can result from fronts passing through...
Here is another example of much clouds can bring to a sunset or sunrise image...

Sunrise Service For One...
Easter Dawning
I had the good fortune this morning to have Marsh Creek virtually all to myself. I arrived about an hour before sunrise; hoping the clouds would cooperate ... And on Easter morning of all days, they did!
As the light started to build; clouds started to roll in from the West, along with contrails from high flying jets. Jets that were not leaving contrails only scant minutes before this image was taken.
All of the elements came together in that special way; that as a photographer, you knew you made the right call by hopping out of bed...
Risen
The show continued as a few minutes later; the Sun made it's glorious appearance, gracing the Eastern sky with it's warmth and life.
Truly just one of those mornings that reaffirms for me; why I am so passionate about photography.
Happy Easter Everyone!!!!

April Fools Sunset
Evening Blush...
This sunset is from Marsh Creek. I noticed the clouds on my way home from work; and couldn't wait to get out behind the lens this evening. This explains why when I shoot sunrises, or in this case sunsets, I want to see some clouds...
Clouds act as the Sun's canvas, displaying all of the beauty and drama available. If the clouds were not there, all you would have is a little bit of color; there wouldn't be any thing to make you wish your favorite person was with you to share this...
Don't be a "fool"; there is still time to for you and your friends to become fans of my Facebook page (Click Here) so you can take advantage of my Spring Break Special .
Don't delay, the Spring Break Special only runs until April 5th...
