31 / 365 Pink Star

Well, here it is the 31st and I have made it a month into my 365 Project. I am pretty happy with the results so far... Given the forecast for the coming week; I will probably stick to the floral images for a few days at least so no one gets too bummed out.

30 / 365 Blue Beauties

Or purple... whatever ;-)

I love Winter and snow; but I also like having such a wonderful place like Longwood Gardens nearby that allows you to get away from the cold for a little while, relax, and take in some of nature's beauty.

Another image from my outing to Longwood's Orchid Festival... I will be updating my online gallery with all of the images soon, stay tuned...

28 / 365 Spring Inside Winter

Just a reminder that despite the cold and snow; Spring is on her way. Shes just taking her own sweet time about it :) Felt really good to stretch the legs after this week, seeing the snow and cold outside while I looked at these beautiful orchids trying to decide how many layers to remove.

25 / 365 One Lamp

Getting caught up a little... this is the final image from my frigid outing in Philly last Sunday. I was able to capture some of the snows of this past week and will be sharing them in the days ahead, possibly as separate blog posts. Stay tuned...

24 / 365 Grey Skies

A slightly different take on my outing this past weekend... does this image make you think cold or warm weather? This was a 30 second exposure...

23 / 365 Philly Sunrise

This was taken yesterday morning from the Spring Garden Street bridge. At that time of the morning, traffic is pretty light so it isn't too dangerous and you can find parking not too far away. I was using my ND10 filter to make some longer exposures; trying to capture the movement in the clouds and water. Despite having a very stable tripod, thanks to a trash truck crossing the bridge towards the end of the exposure, I also seemed to capture a little motion in the buildings as well...

Hope you enjoy today's image...

22 / 365 Smoke & Mirrors

One of my images from this mornings frigid outing... This is the Cira Centre; also known as the Amtrak Building. One nice thing about shooting in such cold weather; there is very little haze in the lower parts of the atmosphere that is normally present in the warmer months. This allows you to capture better detail and features of your landscape & skyline subjects.

21 / 365 Diesel

Captured this image the other night while out touring my stores... I have a feeling we'll being seeing plenty of these trucks in the coming weeks :)

20 / 365 Snow At Gay & High Streets

From the storm that occurred on the 11th & 12th...

Looks like there may be more opportunities for snow images tonight and tomorrow as well.

19 / 365 Happy Girl

Taken with a little point & shoot and not my normal gear; I captured this one as I was getting Elise into the truck at the end of our Daddy Daughter Day... We had a blast and I was just thrilled to get to spend some quality time with my Scoot. Played around with the processing a little bit differently than I normally do. Not sure about how it turn out in that regard; but that isn't the point of this photo, capturing how happy my little girl was on spending time with her Daddy was the most important part :)

18 / 365 Overcast Oranges

Same location... Different light. When using the natural light of a window, sometimes clouds can make all of the difference.

16 / 365 3 Orchids

I made this image in one of my favorite impromptu studios; my kitchen. I am lucky to have 2 large northern exposure windows that provide great light for still life and portrait images. These are the orchids I mention yesterday. I picked up this plant last summer for less than $10 at our local Produce Junction. I have another plant that is loaded with buds and should be blooming soon...

15 / 365 Pushing Buttons

After spending the night writing; my eyes feel like that door in the background looks... Some days your buttons get pushed no matter what you do. I think a few hours of shooting are in order :)

14 / 365 Gay Street Snow

I know this post is a little early for keeping with theme of the project; but rather that than being behind right? I am posting it this evening since I have to devote all my time over the next 24 hours or so to something definitely not photography related. Don't just hate when that happens?

One of my favorite from the storm the other night... not too many times that I'd venture out into the center of that street.

13 / 365 High Street Snow

I captured this image during some of the heaviest snow of the storm. It was really coming down. There was very little wind and it was snowing heavily enough that you could almost hear the snow flakes landing. From the sign on the left; you should be able to figure out where I was standing if you are familiar with the West Chester area.

12 / 365 Court House Tree

I had occasion to be out and about last night due to the snow, and guess what found it's way into my truck? Of course my camera! This is the Christmas Tree outside of the county court house in the heart of West Chester. Even though it's a little late in coming down; I am happy to have had the opportunity to capture an image of it in the snow.

11 / 365 Fear At Mid Day

This is another part of the old mill sight that I was shooting this past weekend. I used a combination of ND filters to capture the motion of the clouds in the bright mid day conditions (snow cover). The mood of the final image was done using a secret mix of post techniques...

10 / 365 Time Passes

Here is where I was shooting Sunday... this is an old mill that is only a few minutes from my home. I wanted to try to capture cloud movement with a bright sky... What do you think?

9 / 365 Peeking Around The Corner

Anyone have any guesses? The next image will reveal where I was shooting; but this image should provide some clues as to what I was after Sunday...

Okay... but where does it go?

6 / 365 Red Door

From this morning... this was not the main target of my outing(as you will see later); just some "collateral damage" from my camera being around.

5 / 365 Somber Sky

One of the final images of the day... Still have plenty to learn with the new filter; but I see a lot of potential when the conditions are right. Going to have to try again real soon :)

4 / 365 Cabin & Clouds

Made this image as I was experimenting with different shutter speeds to see how the filter would effect exposure, as well as how much motion in would allow me to capture.

What do you think of this one?

3 / 365 Storm Break Over Valley Forge

This image was from late this afternoon... after much debate and frustration about where to shoot; I settled on Valley Forge. I wanted an opportunity to have a lot of sky and some fixed elements so I could try out my new filter. This was made using the Lee Big Stopper; a 10 stop ND filter. I was a little nervous using it in the conditions; it's glass instead of resin, and I am pretty sure it won't bounce if I drop it ;)

I am not sure if I am disqualified from continuing my 365 Project. If you miss a day, is that it? Or can you make it up and play catch up? Either way... this is my 3rd image of the project.

Hope everyone enjoyed the snow...

2/365 3.2 Seconds at Valley Forge...

I received a new filter on Friday; a Lee 10 stop Neutral Density filter aka "The Big Stopper". I have been waiting for the skies to be favorable to try it out. The heavy gray clouds seemed to breaking up so I grabbed my gear and headed out. I had pictured an image using this monument when I ordered this filter back in September. The sky didn't hold on quite long enough... maybe I will have better luck with the filter tomorrow.

1/365 Betty Spaghetty

Inspired by a photobud (Mary :) ) and a few others; I have decided to do a "365" project. I will either shoot and/or process a new image for each day in 2011. Sometimes there may be themes, or they will be just the randomness of what comes... I might not be able to post them the day of (as is the case here) but they will be posted with the day they were captured or processed.

I am doing it for several reasons; but at the very least as a new challenge to myself and my creativity.

This was taken as we were celebrating the New Year at Nanny's house. Elise didn't want her picture taken, instead wanting the dolls to be the picture ;-)
